About Pastor Lalan

Pastor Lalan Mathew

Senior pastor, IPC Agape Stoke-on-Trent

Born, and brought up, in a Christian household. Pastor Lalan was saved and born-again at the age of 19, and subsequently got baptised and has been living in the Christian faith ever since. In 2008, he was ordained as an Evangelist by Pastor K.C Thomas (IPC Kerala State President). In February 2016, he successfully completed a Diploma in Christian Studies (via distance learning) from the Global Institute For Theological Studies, associated with Bethel Bible College, based in Punalur, Kerala, India. He was subsequently ordained as a Pastor with the IPC organisation, and officially took on the lead Pastor role at the IPC Agape Stoke-on-Trent Church.

History of IPC Agape Stoke-on-Trent Church

IPC Agape Stoke-on-Trent Church started with the current congregation in late 2023, but our ministry started with humble beginnings in 2004. This is the year when Aleyamma Lalan, moved to Stoke-on-Trent, England from Kerala, India. When she first arrived in the city, she regularly joined together in praise & worship in the rented accommodation she shared with other nurses who had also migrated from Kerala to Stoke. After her husband – Pastor Lalan Mathew – and children joined her in England, together with the families of the other migrant nurses, they expanded from prayer groups into basic church gatherings in rented spaces. These gatherings continued for several years, and the size of the congregation, and the leadership, changed as time passed.

This brings us to the most recent chapter. In the summer of 2023, a fresh cohort of nurses from Kerala migrated to Stoke, and contacted Pastor Lalan and Aleyamma and expressed an interest in gathering together for church fellowship. Conversations gave way to a simple fellowship in Pastor Lalan’s family home for several months, which then moved into a dedicated worship space in our current location.

In October 2023, our church was formalised and got affiliated with The Indian Pentecostal Church of God (IPC UK & Ireland Region) to continue its work for the Kingdom of God in Stoke-on-Trent. The IPC (The Indian Pentecostal Church of God) organisation have more than 30 churches in the UK, and is a registered charitable organisation.
